Responsibilities of Landlord and Tenant

The Tenancy Agreement is a legal document that states your rights and responsibilities as a tenant and the rights of Cymdeithas Tai Eryri as your Landlord. Once you have signed the Agreement, the law judges that you have read and understood the agreement. It is important for you to remember that you can lose your rights as a tenant if you breach the conditions of your Agreement. If there is anything in the agreement that you don’t understand then you should contact the Housing Officer in your local office.

The Association cannot force you to leave your home without obtaining an order from the County Court. The law refers to this as ‘rights of possession’. The County Court may allow a possession order on a number of grounds, for example, rent arrears, harassment of neighbours, damage to property etc. We must present you with a Notice of seeking Possession before we can start court action.

As a tenant you are entitled to live in your home peacefully and without intervention from the Association, but you will be required to give access to our workers or contractors so that they may inspect the condition of the property or to undertake repair work. We will try and give you 24 hours notice in such circumstances, but access will be required immediately in an emergency. You are expected to live in the property as your only or main home.
